In this capacity, he has served as consultant and frequent speaker for school districts, law enforcement agencies and professional organizations worldwide. He serves as executive editor of the School Safety News Service, America’s leading school crime prevention newsletter. He holds a California teaching credential, administrative credential and a certificate in school business management. His experience includes service as a teacher, assistant superintendent and school board member. His administrative experience includes serving as chief school business officer and as vice president of Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. He received his B.S. in business administration and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University. He received his Ed.D. from the University of Southern California.
Dr. Stephens has conducted Selected Training and Technical Assistance Activities. He has served as a guest lecturer at more than 20 different colleges and universities and at the FBI National Academy. He has provided more than 500 lectures to educational associations, state legislatures, and juvenile and criminal justice organizations in almost every state. He has had more than 200 television appearances and hundreds of radio, newspaper and magazine interviews, including the Today’s Show, Oprah, Larry King Live, CBS This Morning, and Prime Time Live with Diane Sawyer.
Dr. Stephens served as an expert witness in a recent mass shooting case where Roy J. Rodney, Jr. and the Rodney & Etter firm served as defense counsel. The court ruled in favor of the firm’s client indicating that “no action of the school system would have prevented the mid-day attack.”
Following his testimony, Dr. Stephens issued the following statement “creating safe and secure school facilities as well as providing positive learning climate for students is critical for schools across the country.
